Yes, I am a fan of Apple. Maybe even a fan boy, whatever that is. I also understand the humor and facts that stack up against them. Yes, iTunes sucks, iCloud doesn't synch properly, to name the two that annoy me. But still ... onwards. To me it isn't the hardware, the software, the apps, the OS, it is the entire Eco system. THAT's why I am a fan.

I am not a fan of what MZ is doing with Facebook, which is why I am not there (for now). BUT, his massive announcement on what he is doing with abou 99% of his fortune ? Well now, that I am a fan of.

What I do not get is the criticism he has received, from tax avoidance / dodging to the money could just be abused / mis managed and ‘proof’ that he doesn’t know what he is doing – just witness what happend to the hundred million he gave to Newark schools.

Whatever the motivation, the fact he is giving it away is pretty frigging awesome – hats off to Zuck – and who the hell are we to back him into a corner such that he has to actually DEFEND himself.

The world has gone NUTS. What would the critics have said if he simply set up a secret off shore fund for Max – to avoid the taxes.

On Tuesday, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a powerful announcement — not only did he reveal the birth of his daughter, Max, but he shared plans to give up 99% of his personal…

            <a href=""><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3776" src="" alt="TSA" width="150" height="150" /></a>Couldn't help but notice - and certainly cannot resist the comment.. Going through the process for a recent flight - message courtesy of that fine institution <a href="" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The TSA</a>.

At the security check …. “Please carry your boarding pass with you” … and … “Please check your phone through the scanner”.

My boarding pass was on my phone.

Said it before – saying it again – this agency is not ready for prime time

Update – June 2nd

Melvin Carraway has been replaced at the TSA – I only wish it was because of this post 🙂

Mr John Gruber has exactly the same feeling

It gets worse :

The acting head of the TSA has been reassigned following a report that “federal undercover investigators were able to penetrate security checkpoints at U.S. airports carrying illegal weapons or simulated bombs 95 percent of the time.”

A computer glitch grounded every United flight this morning. The glitch added to a chaotic morning for airlines as bomb threats were made against at least five airliners.

<a href=""><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3730" src="" alt="IMG_0380.PNG" width="150" height="150" /></a>It strikes me that Apple were the first - and arguably still the only-  'device maker' to add a third sense to their repertoire for digital communications.

Came across these wonderful words this morning

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Caribbean poet and playwright Derek Walcott (b. January 23, 1930) — a writer of such extraordinary poetic prowess that his 1992 Nobel Prize in Literature appears a wholly inadequate measure of his mastery and mesmerism — addresses with a luminous sidewise gleam in a poem titled “Love After Love,” found in his Collected Poems: 1948–1984.

<a href=""><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3497" src="" alt="robot-butler" width="150" height="150" /></a>When I was a kid, the science fiction I read often had a consistent vein of truth running through it - as the world became more automated - we were going to enter the leisure age’ - Robots / Automatons were going to serve us, do our work - we were going to just ‘enjoy’ our lives.

Not seeing that myself – how about you ?

<a href=""><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3361" src="" alt="images" width="150" height="150" /></a>For the longest time I used <strong>"I am my own system of record"</strong> as part of my email signature. It came out from my position that the concept that an organization - ANY organization - that was trying to build a realistic picture of who I was - so that they can better sell to me was essentially flawed. It is impossible. (I will write more about that sometime - but I think if you think about it - it is perfectly obvious.) Nobody knows more about me that me. Repeat for the other 7 billion and counting people on the earth.

Delighted now to see that The Berkman Center for Internet and Society @ Harvard University concurs.

In this Wiki article on ‘Project VRM’, I was pleased to see these principle called out ,,,
