How do you blend in, or should you stand out? The challenge is to do both.

Just Blending In … You will┬ájust be a number

Just Standing Out … You could be ignored because ‘the collective is not ready for you’

Personally – I would err on standing out – ‘could’ has better odds than ‘will’

  1. But the risk to standing out goes beyond the possibility of being ignored. You may actually be preceived as a threat by those who have a stake in the status quo. A lot of big corporate environments are like a giant game of whack-a-mole. Stand out, and you might get whacked. I still agree with your conclusion though. It is better to live one day as a lion than a thousand years as a lamb.

    • concurrence …. if you are a threat – in movies they ‘take you out’ … in the real world you are ignored – and when that doesn’t work – you are made to feel uncomfortable etc etc – what was it Gandi said … “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
